Letter from a Supporter

MCG Launch 20th March 2012.

Being an avid Geelong supporter my whole life, this was as close as I was going to get to running out onto that green grass field! Coming up from the tunnel and seeing the bright lights of the MCG really makes you think it cant get better than this!

Being at the MCG for Scoresby Football Clubs season launch was very appropriate. A minute silence was held for the passing of Jim Stynes. Jim was an inspiration to so many, not just footballers. We were very lucky to have a former team mate of Jims with us; past Collingwood captain (1981-1982) andMelbourneruckman Peter Moore. Peter shared with us a story of him and Jim training and the type of person he was.

Peter was a fantastic aspect of the night and I was lucky enough to be sitting next to him for dinner! He played a total of 249 matches and was unlucky not to play in a premiership as he played in the Magpies losing Grand Final teams of 1977, 1979, 1980 and 1981. In 2005 he was also inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.

A story everyone wanted to know about was when Collingwood lost the 1981 Grand Final to Carlton! Peter can be seen throwing his Runner’s Up medal away in the background right after receiving it. He still to this day does not know where it is!

Tony Jones was our lovely MC for the night. It was lovely seeing Tony in action live rather than on my TV screen every weeknight! Tony has been a sports journalist with channel nine since 1986.In 2011 he celebrated 25 years with the Nine Network. He was a fantastic host for the night, conducting the great auction and was always up for a laugh.

It is so nice to see all the hard work that goes into the night pay off. Thank you to the Scoresby Football Club for hosting a wonderful night. Good Luck for the 2012 season!

Emma Baxter.
