Vale Herman Wessel β A Scoresby Football Club Legend ποΈπ€π
It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of a true giant of the SFNC community, Herman Wessel.
To say Herman was a “larger-than-life” character doesn’t even begin to cover the massive impact he had on our club. Arriving from the Bonbeach Football Club, he pulled on the Scoresby jumper for six memorable years.
He etched his name into our history books forever as the No. 1 ruckman in our historic 1977 Premiership sideβthe club’s first and only premiership in Division One.
But Herman’s impact went far beyond his dominance on the field. In a testament to his unmatched selflessness and dedication to our future, he donated his senior playing wages directly back into the club to fund the development of our Under-16 and Under-18 junior programs.
Years later, his leadership continued off the field as he served as Club President across 1988 and 1989, guiding the club with the same passion he showed on the turf.
We extend our deepest condolences to Herman’s family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of sharing a laugh, a game, or a beer with him.
He was the very lifeblood of local footy, and his legacy will live on at Scoresby forever.
Rest in Peace, Herman.
Details regarding memorial services will be shared once finalized.
