EZYAIR 2025 Season Review | Scoresby

By Christopher Kourtis.
They’ve only gone and done it again! Scoresby’s senior men’s have one-upped themselves by earning promotion to Division Two.
Senior Men’s
Ladder position: 2nd (15-3)
Leading goal kicker: Adam Amin (89 goals)
Scoresby have secured their second consecutive premiership, and with it, promotion into Division Two.
The Magpies were not to be intimidated by the new challenge of Division Three, starting their season off 7-1 by the time they met heavy premiership favourites Donvale in Round 8. In fact, the only loss to that point was against The Basin, who were helped along greatly by a one-off cameo by Thomas ‘Prime Train’ Baulch.
Scoresby fell to Donvale in their first of three meetings in 2025, losing by 19 points. The reverse fixture in Round 17 was the club’s centenary match, and they did the occasion justice, beating Donvale this time by ten points, coming back from a seven-goal deficit.
Despite only three losses throughout the season, Scoresby lost the Qualifying Final to Knox.
Any talks of a wobble were quickly put to bed though, as they responded with a 51-point win against Upper Ferntree Gully (Semi Final 1) and a 39-point win over Knox (Preliminary Final) to book their spot in the Grand Final.
The Division Three Grand Final was the Magpie derby, as Scoresby met Donvale yet again. Scoresby had the chance to end things early but were inaccurate in front of goal. Managing to hold off a late charge from Donvale, Scoresby emerged two-point victors and could call themselves premiers for the second time in two years.
Best win: Grand Final: Donvale 10.8-68 def. by Scoresby 9.16-70 @ Jubilee Park
The biggest day of the season and it was no surprise that Scoresby performed once again.
They blew Donvale out of the water to start the game yet kicked poorly in front of goal. The fact that they went into Quarter Time at 2.9-21 and Half Time at 4.12-36 was criminal – the game should’ve been dead and buried before the second quarter began.
The sign of a champion is how they respond when challenged, however, and challenged they were. Donvale mounted a late push that saw them put up 38 points in the fourth quarter, kicking six of the last seven goals of the game.
With the lead cut down to two and everyone around Jubilee Park holding their breath, Scoresby did just enough to get themselves over the line – two straight promotions, and what a way to do it.
Tom Wolnarek put up 19 disposals and 11 marks, earning himself the Best on Ground medal. Cooper Frith was his usual self with 24 disposals and 15 contested possessions, whilst Tim De Geest played the role of the enforcer, laying ten tackles.
Adam Amin headlined the goal kicking list once again, kicking three goals, as Declan McBean chimed in with two of his own.
Key players:
The Division Three Team of the Year was flooded with Scoresby players, and rightfully so. While Craig Mackenzie was named as the coach, Jordan Camilleri was listed as a follower on the back of an immense season. The midfielder averaged 28 disposals, 15 contested possessions and seven inside 50s, earning himself the league Best and Fairest award.
Cooper Frith was named on the wing, earning best on votes in 15 of his 22 games with 27 disposals a game. Also with 15 best on votes was Matt Traynor – boasting 22 disposals a game and 24 goals for the season, he was a surprising omission from the Team of the Year side.
Tom Wolnarek was a monster down back. Averaging 20 disposals and nine intercept possessions, Wolnarek was listed as a full back in the Team of the Year side. Ahead of him was fellow defender Tristan Brunnning as a half back, boasting six intercept possessions a game himself.
Adam Amin was his usual self, taking out the league-leading goal kicking award. With 89 goals on the season, Amin put up an average of four goals and three behinds, making himself a lock for the Team of the Year.
What’s next?
Scoresby need to make sure that they reload for another title charge in 2026. They’ve confirmed the re-signings of all of their Team of the Year talent, as well as the likes of McBean, De Geest and Traynor.
The Magpies will know to not be complacent however and have already begun to recruit. Liam Malone has been confirmed as the first of the new signings, bringing valuable Premier Division experience with him. The 196cm key forward makes the journey from Blackburn, whilst also having represented East Ringwood in the past.
The last side to earn back-to-back promotions were Surrey Park, who finished third in Division Two this season. In a post-game interview after the Grand Final, Declan McBean said “Everybody is saying this is the Surrey Park format – no. This is the Scoresby format.”
Now they get the opportunity to prove it again in Division Two, 2026.
NETBALL
Summary:
Scoresby’s netball team were premiers of Division Fourteen after a terrific season. The side played their first three games in Division Fifteen (2-1 record), before coming into the division above in Round 4 and going undefeated from there on.
The minor premiers won Semi Final 2 against Coldstream by two goals, before beating the same Coldstream side in the Grand Final, this time by five goals. They would simply not be denied.
Georgia Woosnam led the side’s attack, scoring 193 goals throughout the course of the season.
VETERAN MEN’S
Summary:
Scoresby’s veteran’s side experienced much success in 2025, but a finals win eluded them as they bowed out in the first week.
The team finished second on the ladder with only one loss, which came to an undefeated Mooroolbark side. Despite taking a three-game win streak into the finals, the Magpies were eliminated by North Ringwood, losing by 55 points.
Sam Purdon won the league Best and Fairest, as he led the team with seven goals and eight best on votes in ten games. Michael Bray was also amongst the best on votes in eight games, whilst Matt Burns spearheaded the attack with 21 goals.
